President’s Message
The International Neurootological and Equilibriometric Society (NES) was founded in 1974 in Germany by the late Professor Claus-Frenz Claussen.
In 2015, its spirit was carried forward by Professor Ágnes Szirmai in Hungary, where the Society continued to flourish.
At the 52nd Annual Congress held in Kawagoe, Japan, in August 2025, it was officially decided to relocate the NES headquarters to Japan.
As the third President, I am deeply honored to succeed Professors Claussen and Szirmai and to lead NES into a new era.
NES brings together physicians, audiologists, medical technologists, speech therapists, and physical therapists from many countries who share a passion for neuro-otology.
Guided by the philosophy “Do not treat the disease, but treat the person,” we aim to combine the scientific foundation of Western medicine with the holistic perspective of Eastern medicine.
Together with our colleagues from Korea, China, Taiwan, and beyond, we continue to explore the true meaning of patient-centered care.
Our Society is dedicated to advancing research and clinical practice on hearing and balance disorders such as vertigo, tinnitus, and hearing loss, while also engaging in broader fields including neurology, psychiatry, sports medicine, and public health.
Cherishing our long tradition, we move forward with openness, collaboration, and a shared vision for the future.
I warmly invite you to join us—to learn, to grow, and to build the next chapter of NES together.
Hideaki Sakata, M.D., Ph.D.
President, International Neurootological and Equilibriometric Society (NES)
